Allied Architecture - Batesville, IN

Allied ArchitectureThe Company was founded in the Summer of 2009 in effort to better serve the Tri-State area with quality Architectural and Interior design grounded by 17 years of commercial experience not just designing but also implementing architectural solutions. We are called Allied Architecture because to design and construct great architecture, owners need more than an Architect. By forming great alliances with consultants, contractors, sub-contractors, vendors and material suppliers throughout the tri-state, our clients get an informed, motivated and unified team, all striving to succeed in building excellence. Understanding what critical roles these players have in the process helps get you the owner, not just a good product but a GREAT Product! An Allied team is an unbeatable force in the design/construction industry.

Today, many architects do not get the chance to see their details in action and learn from their mistakes. Many architects, unfortunately are farmed in big firms and simply go from project to project fulfilling only their distinct role within the design process and are rarely involved in the day-to-day construction efforts. In fact, many architects fear the phone calls of the contractors who implement their designs - it typically means trouble. My experience has been grounded in Design/Build which has enabled me to work WITH the contractors not against them, in taking my projects from Design Concept to Building Occupancy. As a member of the contracting team for 16 years, I also got to see how the buildings we designed performed over their lifespan since the contractor is typically involved in warranty issues.

I have learned a great deal from this architect/contractor relationship and feel that every Architect could better their careers by understanding what design details work and what doesn't so we as a profession improve rather than continually regurgitating building details that don't work simply because we don't take the time to learn from the contractors.

I believe RFI's (Requests for Information) during construction are a big problem for owners who get financially soaked by Architecture firms charging time because their drawings were not done with enough care to be built properly. I pledge to keep RFI's to a minimum and hope to eliminate them completely. Big firms charge big hours and big money for their own mistakes, I do not believe this is fair and will offer guaranteed maximum pricing so you know I am incentivized to get it right before my design goes to construction and not charge you for my mistakes.

Change Orders are another avenue for the Contractor to soak the owners for more money when they see holes in the construction documents. I am very cognizant of this element and will strive to keep change orders based on Owner's changing the project scope not because of insufficient information from the Architect.
